Jamaica Wins Gold in Women's 4 x 100m Relay

After finishing second to the United States at each of the past two Olympics, Jamaica finally got revenge. The Jamaican women put an exclamation point on their domination of Olympic sprinting Friday night, winning the gold medal in the women's 4 x 100m relay at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The Jamaican team, which included Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson, and Briana Williams, finished in a time of 41.02 seconds. The United States took the silver medal in 41.45 seconds, and Great Britain won the bronze in 41.88 seconds.

It was Jamaica's first gold medal in the women's 4 x 100m relay since 2004. The victory also gave Thompson-Herah her third gold medal of the Tokyo Games, making her the first woman to win three gold medals in the sprints since Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988.

The United States had won the gold medal in the women's 4 x 100m relay at the past two Olympics, but they were unable to match Jamaica's speed on Friday night. The American team, which included Javianne Oliver, Teahna Daniels, Jenna Prandini, and Gabby Thomas, was in contention for the gold medal until the final leg of the race, but Williams was able to hold off Thomas to give Jamaica the victory.

Great Britain's team, which included Asha Philip, Imani-Lara Lansiquot, Dina Asher-Smith, and Daryll Neita, ran a strong race to win the bronze medal. It was Great Britain's first medal in the women's 4 x 100m relay since 1996.
