From Soviet Rule to Independence
Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day on August 24th, commemorating the declaration of independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Prior to this, Ukraine had observed Independence Day on January 22nd, but the date was changed to align with the actual day of independence.
