Biden Drops Out of Reelection Race

Historical Decision Marks Turning Point in 2024 Election

Thirty-seven Congressional Democrats Push Biden to Withdraw

In a historic move, President Joe Biden has become the first sitting president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 to drop out of the race for reelection. The announcement, made on Sunday, has sent shockwaves through the Democratic Party and thrown the 2024 election into turmoil.

Prior to his announcement, growing pressure had mounted within the Democratic ranks for Biden to step aside. Thirty-seven congressional Democrats, including independent Sen. Joe Manchin, had urged him to reconsider his reelection bid. Citing concerns about his age and low approval ratings, they argued that a new candidate would be better positioned to defeat Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.

Biden's decision has left the Democratic race wide open. Vice President Kamala Harris, who Biden has endorsed as his replacement, is considered the favorite among the remaining candidates. However, a crowded field of potential challengers could emerge, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

With the withdrawal of Biden, the 2024 presidential race is poised to be one of the most competitive in recent history. The Democratic Party will need to find a candidate who can unify the party and appeal to a broad range of voters. Meanwhile, Trump and the Republicans will be eager to capitalize on Biden's departure and retake control of the White House.
