Independiente's Spörle heads home winner against Talleres
Buenos Aires, Argentina - Independiente and Talleres de Córdoba played to a 1-0 draw on Monday in the 14th round of the Copa de la Liga Profesional. With the result, Independiente remains in the bottom of the standings with 16 points.
Talleres, which is coached by former Independiente manager Lucas Pusineri, started the match strongly and had a few good chances to take the lead in the first half. However, Independiente goalkeeper Milton Álvarez made some key saves to keep his team in the game.
Independiente improved after the break and took the lead in the 75th minute when Adrián Spörle headed home a cross from Alan Velasco. Talleres pushed for the equalizer in the final minutes, but Independiente held on to secure the three points.
"We're very happy with the win," said Independiente coach Carlos Tevez. "We knew it would be a tough game, but we were able to get the three points. This is a big boost for us."
With the win, Independiente moved up to 16th place in the standings. Talleres remains in 10th place with 21 points.
