Nico Rosberg grabs Chinese Grand Prix pole

Qualifying highlights from Shanghai

15-17 April 2016

Nico Rosberg has taken pole position for the 2016 Formula 1 Pirelli Chinese Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver set a time of 1:35.402 on the Shanghai International Circuit, beating his teammate Lewis Hamilton by 0.213 seconds. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel will start third, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the other Ferrari.

Qualifying was a tense affair, with the top three drivers all setting their fastest times on the final runs of Q3. Rosberg's pole is his first of the 2016 season, and it gives him a significant advantage for the race on Sunday.

Hamilton will be looking to bounce back from his disappointing qualifying performance, while Vettel will be hoping to challenge Rosberg for the lead from the start. Raikkonen will also be a threat, and the Finn will be looking to make up for his disappointing start to the season.

The Chinese Grand Prix is the third race of the 2016 Formula 1 season. Rosberg currently leads the drivers' championship with 57 points, ahead of Hamilton on 33 points and Vettel on 30 points.
