PuckPedia's Hart Levine confirms in an article for Northstar Bets that Boston will face a $45 million cap penalty next season. The Bruins may take advantage of the buyout window to mitigate the penalty.
If the Bruins exceed the $82.5 million cap by any amount in bonuses, they will add the difference to their cap penalty. As of now, assuming an $83.5 million cap in 2023-24, the Bruins will have approximately $55 million to extend.
If Boston buys out a player's contract, they will be tagged with cap penalties of $1.29 million in 2025-26 and 2026-27. The Bruins will need to carefully manage their cap situation to avoid further penalties.
