Berlin Police Ban Slogans During Permitted Protests
Berlin, May 7 - German police cleared around 150 pro-Palestinian demonstrators from a Berlin university courtyard on Tuesday, May 7. The protesters were removed from Free University, where they had set up a protest camp against Israel's actions in Gaza. Permitted protests were banned from using slogans such as "stop the war" and "free Palestine." The Berlin police prohibited the protests based on concerns about public safety and order. The clearance operation began at around 8:58 AM PDT, and German-Israeli activist Iris Hefets was arrested during the operation. Hefets was previously arrested in October 2023 for her involvement in protests against Israel's actions in Gaza. The protesters were peacefully removed from the courtyard, and there were no reports of violence or injuries.
